In het kader van ons onderzoek naar privacy en veiligheid in smart cities (zie
hier) gaven Vivien Butot en Freek de Haan een presentatie van hun tussentijdse bevindingen op een groot seminar in Trondheim (Noorwegen), te weten het achtste Nordic Geographers Meeting, welke van 16 t/m 19 juni 2019 plaatsvond.
Deze bijeenkomst focust op een aantal, dooreengevlochten vragen (zie
hier meer info):
"What are the emerging challenges across the world and what role should or could the discipline of geography play in addressing and solving them, both within and beyond the academy? What emotions, behaviours, moralities, powers, transformations, hopes, grieves and responsibilities at different scales are implicated in thinking and acting sustainably? To what extent are our conceptual and methodological toolkits attuned to the shifting geographies of sustainability of the world today? Resources are distributed based on historically unmatched levels of inequality. Are we, then, at a point in time where ‘our uncommon future’ is becoming an increasingly apt diagnosis? What alternative agendas and concepts are emerging that challenge or complement sustainability as a problem formulation and agenda for the future?"
De presentatie van Vivien ("Proposing a Formal Definition of the Smart City and Exploring its Perception by Citizens") focuste op zijn onderzoek naar hoe burgers reageren op het idee van de slimme stad, in het bijzonder met betrekking tot privacy. Freeks presentatie ("Applications of safety: control, care and privacy in the smart city") ging over hoe nieuwe data, technologie en media variabel worden ingezet ten behoeve van veiligheid en controle.
